Field Hockey Claims 3-1 Road Win Over Non-Conference Becker


Leicester, Mass.- Gordon College defeated Becker College 3-1 in non-conference women’s field hockey action Wednesday afternoon.
 
Gordon got the scoring started with 4:01 remaining in the first half when Brittany Hawkins (Hampstead, N.H.) scored on an assist from Julie Moser (Cheltenham, Pa.). The Hawks answered back 1:18 later when Brooke Cote (Fitchburg, Mass.) rebounded her own shot, putting home for the game tying goal.
 
Gordon took the lead for good with 15:41 remaining in regulation when Katherine Bailey (Baltimore, Md.) fed Samantha Neverett (Athol, Mass.), giving Gordon a 2-1 advantage. The Fighting Scots put the game out of reach when Grace Fabry (Escondido, Calif.) scored on an assist from Brittany Hawkins, making the final 3-1.
 
Gordon goalies Anna Bury (Huntingtown, Md.) and Rebecca Smith (Verona, N.J.) combined to make four saves in a winning effort. The Fighting Scots improved their record to 6-7 on the year.
 
The Scots continue conference play on Saturday morning when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Salve Regina at 11:00 a.m. on Gordon's Homecoming.
