Men's Soccer Shuts Out UNE Behind Three Second Half Goals

Box Score
In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) head-to-head between the visiting Nor'easters of the University of New England and Gordon, the Fighting Scots captured a 3-0 shutout win over their guests, netting each of their goals in the second half to improve to 3-5-3 overall.

Despite Gordon maintaining most of the possession in the first 45 minutes and outshooting UNE 9-3 in the half, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the break. That silence was broken, however, in the 65th minute when David Egeler (Fr./Danbury, Conn.) bested UNE keeper Aidan McParland (Fr./Brockville, Ontario) off a Kellen Kasiguran (Jr./Oakwood Village, Ohio) assist to give the Scots the slight 1-0 lead. With that lead holding heading into the final five minutes of play, Andrew Vandervoort (So./Memphis, Tenn.) widened the gap to 2-0 after burying an indirect from Kasiguran served from just outside the area. Then, not 30 seconds later, Vandervoort and Kasiguran linked up again for the insurance goal, with Kasiguran serving a beautifully struck dead ball into the area from midfield to a waiting Vandervoort, who volleyed it home for the 3-0 lead and eventual win.

Alex Sosler (Sr./Cleveland, Ohio) and Tim Hardy (So./Gorham, Maine) split the shutout win for the Scots, each recording one save on the day, while UNE's McParland turned away seven in the losing effort.

The Scots host Salve Regina on Gordon's Homecoming, Saturday, October 8 at 2:30p.m., while the Nor'easters, now 2-8 overall on the year, host Western New England on the same day at 2:30p.m.
