Volleyball Captures 3-1 Win Over Non-Conference Suffolk

In a non-conference match against visiting Suffolk University tonight in the Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots captured a 3-1 victory over the Rams to improve to 11-8 overall on the year.

After a comfortable opening-set, 25-19 win, the Scots were met with a more aggressive Suffolk attack in subsequent sets. Just one set away from victory following a narrow 25-23 win in the second, the Scots looked to be on their way to completing the sweep until a late rally by the Rams in the third left Gordon on the short end of the 25-23, closing the gap to 2-1 on the match.

The fourth set proved just as close as the previous two, with Gordon pushing to close out the match and the Rams pushing with equal determination to stay alive and force the rubber match fifth set. In the end, however, it was the Scots who came from behind to claim a 26-24 win and send their guests home with the 3-1 loss.

Claudia Amado (Sr./Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied 12 digs, six kills, and seven assists on the night, while Andrea Amado (Sr./Glastonbury, Conn.) notched 14 assists and nine digs, Lauren Kranyak (So./Locust Grove, Va.) recorded seven kills and eight digs, and Keri Hustus (Jr./Eastford, Conn.) and Joy Kimmel (Fr./Madison, Conn.) posted 24 and 10 digs, respectively, in the winning effort.

The Scots return to play on Saturday, October 8 as they host Salem State at 11:00a.m. in non-conference action on Gordon's Homecoming. Suffolk, now 6-13 overall, travel to face St. Joseph's (Conn.) and Emerson at 10:00a.m. and 12:00p.m.
