Scots Blank Salve, 2-0, For Homecoming Win

Box Score
Determined to get a win for their Homecoming crowd, the Fighting Scots shutout the visiting Seahawks of Salve Regina University, 2-0, behind a pair of goals from Andrew Vandervoort (So./Memphis, Tenn.) to improve to 3-0-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

After coming out of the gates to command much of the possession and generate a few early chances, the Scots got on the board in the 13th minute when Vandervoort bested Salve keeper Zachary Harlan (So./Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) on a solo effort to give Gordon the 1-0 lead. Vandervoort would strike again in the 26th minute, finishing a ball from forward Eric Ernst (Jr./Ridgecrest, Calif.) to extend Gordon's lead to 2-0.

Despite increased pressure and six shots from the Seahawks in the second half, those first half goals proved enough for the win as the Scots' defense, backed by netminder Spencer Lord (Sr./North Stonington, Conn.), held firm to preserve the shutout.

With his two-goal effort today, Vandervoort has now netted 10 on the year and leads all Gordon scorers with 20 points. Lord, in his first start of the season, turned away four in the Scots' win, while Harlan posted two saves in the losing effort for Salve.

The Scots host non-conference Keene State on Tuesday, October 11 at 3:00p.m. while Salve travels to Nichols on Wednesday, October 12 for a CCC match beginning at 3:30p.m.
