Gordon Opens CCC Play With 63-56 Win Over Western New England

Box Score
Anxious to notch their first tally in the win the column, the Fighting Scots did just that with gusto tonight on their home court, claiming a 63-56 victory over the visiting Golden Bears of Western New England to move to 1-3 overall, 1-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Combining tenacious defense with consistent, diverse scoring on the offensive end, the Fighting Scots established a healthy 16-6 lead after the first seven minutes of play. The Golden Bears were able to close the deficit by varying degrees over the remaining minutes, but Gordon, led by David Dempsey's (Jr./Wallingford, Conn.) 12 first half points, maintained its six-point lead at the break.

Though the momentum would shift hands throughout the second half, the Scots would never relinquish control of the lead, not allowing their guests any closer than five en route to the seven-point victory.

Dempsey closed out the night with a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Luke Hamilton (So./Mount Airy, N.C.) was the second-leading scorer with 13 points. Western New England was led by standout Andre Shaw (Sr./New York, N.Y.), who netted a game-high 23 points in the loss.

The Scots are on the road in Milton, Mass. to face CCC opponent Curry College on Saturday, December 3 at 3:00p.m. WNE, now standing at 2-3 overall, 0-1 in conference, hosts Nichols College in CCC action on the same day at 3:00p.m.
