Box Score
In their final game of the first semester, the Fighting Scots used a second half surge to pull away from the visiting Wildcats of Wheelock College to claim a commanding 67-53 non-conference win and improve to an even 3-3 overall on the season.
After trading leads throughout the opening 14 minutes of play, Gordon's
Park Thomas (So./Scottsdale, Ariz.) buried a jumper from behind the arc to give the Scots a 23-21 edge. Despite numerous scoring opportunities for both teams, few points were scored in the waning minutes of the first and the Scots carried a four-point advantage into the locker room.
That laggard offensive changed at the outset of the second half, however, as
David Dempsey (Jr./Wallingford, Conn.) and
Luke Hamilton (So./Mount Airy, N.C.) together went on an 11-0 run to stretch the Scots' lead to 15 after just four minutes of play. The lead would build to a hefty 22 points with four minutes showing on the clock, and although the Wildcats would close the gap the Scots buckled down to preserve a 14-point home court victory.
Hamilton finished the night leading all scorers with 18 points, while Dempsey was not far behind with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double and
Hans Miersma (Fr./Whitinsville, Mass.) registered a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double of his own.
Leading the way for Wheelock was Elliot Hernandez (Sr./Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) with 11 points and three rebounds and Bashir Hudson (Jr./Jamaica Plain, Mass.) with eight points and five rebounds.
The Scots return to the court following a two-week holiday break as they travel to Costa Mesa, Calif. for the Vanguard Tournament on December 29 and 30. Wheelock is back at it on Saturday, December 10 as they take on Daniel Webster at 12:00p.m.
