WENHAM, Mass. - A pair of goals from senior forward Samantha Neverett (Athol, Mass.) lifted the Fighting Scots to a season-opening win over the visiting Vikings of Salem State in non-conference field hockey action today.

Neverett opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute to give the Scots the 1-0 lead which they would carry into the break.
Not going down quietly, the Vikings mounted a comeback with a goal by freshman Nicole Bisbee (Templeton, Mass.) on an Erin Wilson (Jr./Reading, Mass.) assist 10 minutes into the second half to tie the score at 1-1. Then with just over one minute left in the second stanza, Neverett netted her second of the day, burying a pass from junior Heidi Lavigne (Westport, Mass.) to put Gordon ahead, 2-1.The Scots buttoned up on the defensive end to preserve the one-goal win.

Gordon's Anna Bury (So./Huntingtown, Md.) had three saves between the pipes in the win, while sophomore Michaela Boyer (South Hadley, Mass.) turned away eight for the Vikings.
