HENNIKER, N.H.—New England College keeper Mary Roux (Hillsborough, N.H.) held visiting Gordon College scoreless as the Pilgrims picked up the 2-0 shutout win over the Scots in field hockey action Saturday afternoon.
The win is the first of the season for the Pilgrims who improve to 1-3 overall, while the loss drops the Scots to 1-4 overall.
NEC would open the scoring just 17:03 into the game as Emily Kuchta (Norwalk, Conn.) would one-time in a pass from Jennifer Adams (Brimfield, Mass.) that would sneak over the shoulder of Gordon keeper Anna Bury (Huntingtown, Md.).
The two teams would battle through the remainder of the opening half scoreless as each team would tally seven shots.
The Pilgrims would give themselves some breathing room early in the second half as Jennifer Adams would notch her first goal of the season assisted by Rachel Carnaroli (Bellingham, Mass.) just over three minutes into the half.
Gordon would have several second half opportunities as the Scots would finish the half out shooting NEC 11-3. Leading the way for Gordon was Samantha Neverett (Athol, Mass.) who tallied six shots on net.
NEC’s Mary Roux recorded her first shutout of the season turning away 11 Gordon shots. Gordon’s Anna Bury finished the game with six saves.
New England College returns to action on Tuesday, Sept.13 when they travel to take on in-state rival Plymouth State University. Gordon College will travel to take on non-conference foe MIT on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
