Hosting their first tournament of the young 2011 season, the Fighting Scots completed a three-match sweep with wins over St. Joseph's (Conn.), Simmons, and Bay Path to improve to an unbeaten 4-0 overall.
Opening the day with St. Joseph's, the Scots cruised to a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-8, 25-12) behind nine kills from senior Claudia Amado (Glastonbury, Conn.), 22 assists from senior Andrea Amado (Glastonbury, Conn.), and six digs from Keri Hustus (Jr./Eastford, Conn.).
Facing Simmons for their second match of the day, the Scots found themselves on the brink of defeat after dropping the first two games, 24-26, 19-25. Determined not to go down quietly, however, the Scots battled back to claim wins in the next three games (25-18, 25-20, 25-12) to preserve their unbeaten streak. Sophomore Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) and Claudia Amado tallied 16 and 15 kills, respectively, in the match, while Andrea Amado dished 40 assists.
After Bay Path jumped out to an early lead with a 25-22 win in game one of match three, the Scots were once again faced with having to rally from an early deficit. And rally they did as Claudia Amado delivered 14 kills, Alex Nawoichick (Jr./Hamilton, Mass.) 11 kills, and Andrea Amado dished 47 assists in lifting Gordon to the 3-1 win (22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-22).
The women return to action on Tuesday, September 6 as they travel to face non-conference Becker at 7:00 p.m.
