Vandervoort Leads Men's Soccer To 3-2 OT Win Over Bridgewater

Box Score
Behind a hat-trick from sophomore Andrew Vandervoort (Memphis, Tenn.), Gordon Men's Soccer completed a come-from-behind, 3-2 extra time win over non-conference Bridgewater State today at the Brigham Athletic Complex to move to 1-1-1 overall on the season.

With Bridgewater dominating much of the early minutes, the Scots found themselves down, 1-0, after the Bears' Donald Flores (Sr./Cranston, R.I.) netted an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute. Despite increased offensive chances, the Scots found themselves at an even greater deficit heading into the break after Bridgewater's Adam Smith (Sr./Kingston, Mass.) finished a ball from Jaime Sinno (So./Foxboro, Mass.) with seven minutes to play in the half.

Not going down without a fight, however, Gordon broke its silence early in the second when Vandervoort collected a pass from Travis Masters (Sr./Annapolis, Md.) just a minute and a half into the period to close the gap, 1-2. While controlling much of the midfield and generating several viable scoring opportunities, the Scots were unable to get the equalizer until the 83rd minute when Vandervoort headed home a ball from senior-captain Blake Berkey (Akron, Ohio) to send the game into extra time. Carrying that momentum, Vandervoort struck again for the game-winner in the 98th minute when he buried an assist from Kristian Kasiguran (Fr./Oakwood Village, Ohio) to lift the Scots to their first win of the young season.

Keeper Alex Sosler (Sr./Cleveland, Ohio) turned away four shots on the day for Gordon, while Bridgewater keeper Joe Parsons (So./Springfield, Mass.) tallied 10 saves.

The Scots return to play on Saturday, September 10 as they travel to Nichols College for their Commonwealth Coast Conference opener. Bridgewater will play host to Plymouth State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
