Box Score
In Commonwealth Coast Conference action today on Gordon’s Quad, the Hawks of Roger Williams downed the Scots, 5-0 behind two goals from freshman Tyler Peckham (Coventry, R.I.).
Despite a tight first 30 minutes, the Hawks took the lead on the eventual game winner with a one-on-one from Trevor Hoxsie (Jr./Scarborough, Maine). From there it was all Hawks all day. Just six minutes later Peckham netted his first of the day off a James Sheldon (Fr./Amherst, N.H.) assist to give Roger Williams the 2-0 lead going into the break.
The second half proved to be a bit of a grudge match, with three of the game’s four cautions given out. Despite the physical play from both teams, the Hawks continued to command the game. Roger Williams stretched their lead at the 53:19 mark when Andrew Carlson (So./Ridgefield, Conn.) set up a Sheldon goal to put the Hawks up 3-0.
The final two goals of the game came one after another for Roger Williams. Peckham finished his second as Sheldon tallied another assist for the Hawks in the 70th minute. Then just over two minutes later Daniel Caruso concluded the day’s scoring on a solo effort.
The Scots managed to stave off any further attempts from the Hawks but the damage had been done. The loss drops Gordon to 4-9-1 overall and 3-3 in conference, while Roger Williams moves to 11-4 and 5-1, respectively.
Between the pipes for the Hawks Jon Pelloso (Jr./Wilbraham, Mass.) picked up the shutout with 12 saves while Kevin Oliveira (So./Bristol, R.I.) added one. Gordon’s Tim Hardy (So./Gorham, Maine) turned away six in the loss for the Scots.
The Scots return to the pitch on Wednesday at 4:00p.m. as they travel to Curry to look to snap this two game losing streak. Roger Williams plays host to Western New England on the same day at 7:00p.m.
