Box Score
In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women’s field hockey action today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots were downed by the visiting Nor’easters of the University of New England, 2-0, to drop to 2-6 in league play. With the win the Nor’easters improve to an impressive 6-2 in the CCC.
With neither team able to find the back of the net despite a 6-2 shot advantage by UNE in the first, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the break.
That all changed just nine minutes into the second, however, when UNE’s Hannah Tavella (Jr./Putnam Valley, N.Y.) finished a feed from Hayley LaPointe (Jr./Topsham, Maine) off a corner for the 1-0 lead. Then, just five minutes later, that lead was extended off another corner when Emily Koehler (Sr./Pelham, N.H.) collected a pass from Laura Egounis (Sr./Boscawen, N.H.) and got the best of Gordon netminder
Anna Bury (Jr./Huntingtown, Md.) to make it a two-goal game.
Though the Scots fired off nine shots in the frame, they were unable to break through the UNE line of defense to get on the board, giving the Nor’easters their third shutout of the season.
UNE keeper Kaitlyn Warren (So./Boscawen, N.H.) recorded eight saves in the win while Bury rounded out the effort with seven saves for Gordon.
The Scots return to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 23 as they travel to face Salve Regina for a CCC tilt at 7 p.m. UNE will travel to Nichols on the same day for a 7 p.m. start.
