Monks Sweep Scots On Senior Night

Hosting St. Joseph's College (Maine) tonight in non-conference women's volleyball action, the Monks swept the host Fighting Scots on Senior Night, 3-0, to improve to 20-7 on the year. The loss drops the Scots to 15-13 overall.

Despite a strong opening set in which both teams vied heavily for the lead, the set and the night in the end belonged to the Monks, who claimed the opening frame, 25-22, before cruising to 25-7, 25-14 wins in the following sets to secure the sweep victory.

Sarah Hawkes (Sr./Pownal, Maine) championed the Monks' effort with 15 digs, eight kills, and two solo blocks on the night, while teammate Kiah Begley (Sr./Berwick, Maine) recorded 11 digs, four kills, Felicia Wachowiak (Fr./Milton, N.H.) tallied a match-high 11 kills, and Erica Russi (Jr./Debary, Fla.) added 15 digs in three sets of work.

Honored prior to the match for her contributions to the Scots' program over the last four years, senior-captain Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn.) paced Gordon's effort with 16 digs together with Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) and Joy Kimmel (So./Madison, Conn.), who pitched in eight digs, eight kills and 22 assists, 12 digs, respectively.

The Scots close out the regular season with a home tri-match against Roger Williams and Southern Maine on Saturday, Oct. 27 beginning at 11 a.m. The Monks travel on the same day for a GNAC matchup with Emerson at 11 a.m.
