Scots Split With Roger Williams, USM In Final Regular Season Tri-Match

The Fighting Scots rounded out their 2012 campaign today with a home tri-match against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Roger Williams University and non-conference University of Southern Maine, falling to the Hawks of RWU in the opening match of the day, 3-0, before rebounding for 3-0 sweep over  USM.

In match one against Roger Williams, the Hawks proved why they are the top team in the CCC, downing the Scots 25-18 in set one before closing out the match in the following two sets, 25-12 and 25-18, to improve to 7-1 in league play this season (18-10 overall). Their effort was led by Kelsey Twarog (Sr./Barkhamsted, Conn.) with 12 kills and 14 digs, while Andrea Gorman (So./Wilbraham, Mass.) recorded eight kills and Emily Lebowitz (Sr./Coventry, Conn.) dished seven assists.

Despite the loss, Gordon received a solid effort from senior-captain Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn.) with 11 digs and Shaylyn Roach (So./South Weymouth, Mass.) and Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) who posted five kills apiece.

Hoping to bounce back in match two, the Scots did so in style, handing the Huskies a 25-18, 25-21, 25-14 loss behind the play of Hustus and Shannon Peterson (So./West Simsbury, Conn.), who paced the win with 17 and 12 digs, respectively. Kranyak also had another banner outing with 13 kills.

Demi Ruder (Fr./Clifton, Colo.) recorded 17 digs in the loss for USM, while Annie Mitchell (Jr./Gorham, Maine) posted 11 digs and Nicole Hansen (So./Biddeford, Maine) and Madalyn Terry (Jr./Kennebunkport, Maine) each contributed 10 digs. The loss drops the Huskies to 9-22 overall on the season.
