Gulls Roll To First-Ever Win Over Scots, 5-2

Box Score
In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer action today at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex, the Endicott College Gulls captured their first-ever win over the Fighting Scots, cruising to a 5-2 final for their first CCC win of the season. The loss drops Gordon to 3-7-1 overall, 2-2 in conference play while the Gulls improve to 6-5-2, 1-2-1 in conference.

The Gulls' offense got to work early on as Jordan Daniel (Fr./Canton, Conn.) finished a ball from fellow freshman forward Zach Rizzo (Fr./Redding, Conn.) in the 10th minute for the 1-0 advantage. That lead grew just five minutes later when Alex Tonsberg (Fr./Westport, Conn.) sent home a Daniel assist, after which Daniel got his second of the afternoon on a solo effort to give the Gulls the 3-0 lead at the break.

Showing some signs of life on their own offensive end, David Egeler (So./Danbury, Conn.) put the Scots on the board with an unassisted effort in the 53rd minute to close the gap to two. Seven minutes later, however, a misplayed ball by the Gordon defense skipped into the back of their own net to hand the three-goal lead back to the Gulls.

And though Alek Duba (So./Bristol, N.H.) finished off an Andrew Vandervoort (Jr./Memphis, Tenn.) corner in the 64th minute, that was as close as Gordon would get as the Gulls' Bobby Durben (Jr./Stow, Mass.) added an insurance goal in the 79th minute to secure the victory for Endicott.

Keeper Daniel Higgins (Sr./South Kingstown, R.I.) earned the win in net for the Gulls, turning away six shots in the outing, while Gordon netminder Tim Hardy (Jr./Gorham, Maine) recorded five saves but was tagged with the loss.

The Scots host CCC opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2:30p.m., while Endicott hosts Curry in league action on the same day at 7p.m.
