The Fighting Scots edged the host Vikings of Salem State University tonight in non-conference women's volleyball action, improving to 10-7 overall on the season with the 3-2 win. The loss drops the Vikings to 2-11 on the year.
In a back and forth evening that saw momentum shift several times, it was Gordon that came out on top, 25-20, 25-18 and 15-9 in sets one, three, and five, respectively. Salem worked hard and were able to earn two set victories (25-20) in sets two and four.
The Vikings were led by senior Brittany Roscoe (Lowell, Mass.) who had 15 kills and 18 digs. Freshman setter Morgan Rae Shambo (Rochester, N.Y.) had 30 assists on the evening.
Gordon received a balanced effort with a combined 25 blocks from junior
Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) and junior
Chelsie Clemens (Santa Barbara, Calif.). Senior
Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn.) had a game-high 19 digs along with five service aces.
Salem State will return to action this Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Mount Ida. Gordon also plays again this Saturday and will be hosting a tri-match with Bridgewater State and UMass Dartmouth.
