Scots Cruise Over MMA Buccaneers, 3-0

Box Score
In non-conference women's volleyball action tonight at Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots improved to 12-8 overall on the year with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-4) win over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The opening set proved to be the closest of the night as Gordon and MMA fought back and forth for the lead until the Scots took over on offense down the stretch behind five aces by senior captain Keri Hustus (Eastford, Conn.) to claim the 25-14 win.

With that momentum, Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) and Laura Schmidt (Jr./Stuart, Fla.) recorded four and three kills in set two, respectively, while Hannah Swor (Fr./Pearland, Texas) dished 10 assists en route to the 25-11 finish and 2-0 overall lead.

From there the match belonged almost entirely to the Scots, who cruised 25-4 in the final frame to wrap up the match in three and drop the Buccaneers to 1-18 overall on the season.

Swor finished the night with 26 assists and five aces, while Kranyak recorded nine total kills and four digs. Additionally, Shaylyn Roach (So./South Weymouth, Mass.) had a banner night for the Scots with seven kills and as many solo blocks and teammate Shannon Peterson (So./West Simsbury, Conn.) chipped in seven digs to the win.

Meghan Weir (So./North Andover, Mass.) led the effort for the Buccaneers with nine digs and three kills while Deb Langley (So./Abington, Mass.) recorded seven digs on the night.

The Scots travel to face Emmanuel and Lasell in a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 13, while MMA will take on Castleton and Albertus Magnus in a tri-match on Thursday, Oct. 11.
