WNE Edges Gordon In CCC Opener, 68-67

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – DeWayne Wynn (Fr./Bristol, Conn.) scored 12 points off the bench including the game-winning lay-in with seven seconds left to lift host Western New England University to a thrilling 68-67 victory over Gordon on Wednesday in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s basketball action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Golden Bears won their first game of the season in four starts while the Fighting Scots fall to 1-2 overall in the CCC opener for both schools.

Wynn stole the ball from Gordon's Park Thomas (Jr./Scottsdale, Ariz.) near mid-court and drove the other way for the decisive basket. He also chipped in three steals to the win.

Thomas led a balanced offense for Gordon with a game-high 16 points, followed by Luke Hamilton (Jr./Mount Airy, N.C.) with 13 and reserves Shaun Roach (Jr./Weymouth, Mass.) and Jason Dempsey (So./Wallingford, Conn.) with10 apiece.

Senior co-captain Damon Alston (New Britain, Conn.) also scored 12 points for the Golden Bears.

The Scots will shoot for their first CCC win on Saturday, Dec. 1 as they host Curry College at 3 p.m. while WNE travels to face Nichols in a conference matchup set for 12 p.m.
