Scots Capture Third Straight With 66-53 Win Over Wentworth

Box Score
The Fighting Scots handed the visiting Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology their first conference loss of the season today (5-3, 2-1 CCC), capturing a 66-53 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory to improve to 5-4, 1-2 in the CCC on the season.

Gordon cruised to the win behind a balanced effort from the starting five, as Park Thomas (Jr./Scottsdale, Ariz.) led all scorers with 20 points, Taylor Bajema (So./Whitinsville, Mass.) netted 15, Hans Miersma (So./Whitinsville, Mass.) contributed a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, David Dempsey (Sr./Wallingford, Conn.) chipped in 10, and Luke Hamilton (Jr./Mount Airy, N.C.) added eight.

Wentworth received a 13-point, seven-rebound effort from John Michael Fragnoli (So./Scotia, N.Y.) and 12 points, eight rebounds from Corey Therriault (Sr./Auburn, Maine).

Wenworth opened the afternoon with sharpshooting from the floor to build an 11-4 lead after just five minutes of action. Thomas brought the game to within one (11-10) following a pair of back-to-back threes on the Scots' next two possessions, and after a free throw conversion from Colin Johnson (Sr./El Dorado Hills, Calif.), Gordon's Dempsey hit two layups to give the Scots a 14-12 lead at 11:53.

The Leopards once again took over on the offensive with a 10-4 run over the next five minutes to establish an eight-point lead, but the Scots refused to allow the lead to slip any further away as Miersma scored seven of the next 11 points for Gordon to make it a 30-27 game in favor of Wentworth at the break.

Though the Leopards extended their advantage to six coming out of the locker room, Gordon utilized a 9-0 run off five points from Hamilton to overtake the lead at 13:54. Over the next four minutes the lead would see-saw until the Scots took over for good at the 9:25 mark, steadily pulling away from their guests down the stretch to secure their first conference win of the season.

The Scots break from play for the holidays before returning to the court on Thursday, Jan. 3 at non-conference Wheelock at 7:30p.m. Wentworth is back at it on Saturday, Dec. 29 for a non-league tilt at Clark set for 8 p.m.
