Scots Fall To Lynchburg On Opening Night Of AJ Buchanan Classic

Box Score
On the road in Purchase, N.Y. for the A.J. Buchanan Classic hosted by Manhattanville College, the Fighting Scots fell to fellow tournament guest Lynchburg College, 69-54, in the opening game to drop to 2-4 overall on the year.

Lynchburg's Michael Wims (Sr./Standardsville, Va.) led all scorers with 22 points, while the Hornets' defense forced 26 total turnovers en route to securing their sixth win (6-2) of the young 2012-2013 season.

Senior forward David Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) paced the effort for Gordon with 13 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Taylor Bajema (Whitinsville, Mass.) contributed 11 points, five boards and junior guards Luke Hamilton (Mount Airy, N.C.) and Park Thomas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.

Gordon's Bajema opened the scoring on the Scots' first possession of the night, but that proved to be the last time they would hold the lead as Lynchburg took over offensively to build a 17-point advantage with 6:34 to play in the period. Determined to keep the game within reach, the Scots inched back in the closing minutes to make it a nine-point game at the break (36-27).

Gordon continued to close the gap in the second, trimming the Hornets' lead down to one (45-44) with just under 10 to play in regulation. From there, however, Lynchburg steadily pulled away for the tournament-opening win.

The Scots will face Berkeley in the consolation game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
