Dempsey Leads Scots To 80-77 Win Over Berkeley

Box Score
Senior forward David Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) netted 16 points to lead the Scots' offensive charge in an 80-77 win over Berkeley College (N.Y.) this afternoon at the A.J. Buchanan Classic hosted by Manhattanville College. The result moves both teams to 3-4 overall on the season.

Dempsey added four boards to his stat line en route to being named to the all-tournament team, while junior guard Park Thomas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and sophomore forward Jason Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) contributed 15 points apiece in the win. Junior guard Luke Hamiton (Mount Airy, N.C.) also had a banner outing with 12 points, eight rebounds and sophomores Taylor Bajema (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Hans Miersma (Whitinsville, Mass.) notched 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Berkeley's effort was led by an impressive game-high 28 points from Kaseem Williams (sr./Brooklyn, N.Y.), while teammate Jose Stable (Sr./Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded 23 in the loss for the Knights.

After Bajema finished a fast break layup on Gordon's opening possession, the Scots maintained the lead for the remainder of the half behind 54 percent shooting from the floor, leading by as many as nine before heading into the locker room up by seven (36-29).

Though the size of that lead would accordion throughout much of the second, Gordon was able to keep the advantage until a fastbreak conversion from the Knights' Jovan Bovell (Jr./Jamaica, N.Y.) on a Williams assist gave Berkeley the go-ahead basket with 8:21 on the clock.

The game remained tight down the stretch, tied three different times before David Dempsey and Thomas hit a trio of free throws in the final minute to give the Scots the win.

Overall Gordon shot nearly 56 percent from the floor on the day while the Knights shot 50 percent.

The Scots return to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 11 to face non-conference Lesley College on the road at 8 p.m.
