Scots Snap Losing Streak With 77-45 Rout Of UNE

Box Score
Seeking to snap a seven-game losing streak, the Fighting Scots did just that with gusto tonight, rolling to a 77-45 win over the visiting Nor'easters of the University of New England to improve 7-13 overall, 6-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

Determined from the beginning to get the win, the Scots opened play with a 15-2 run in six and half minutes of action to establish a healthy lead. UNE would respond with a quick 11 points to Gordon's three to narrow the gap to five points (18-13) nearing the midway point. In the next minute, however, the Scots netted an impressive eight points behind five from Cooper Meyer (Fr./Manito, Ill.) to build a double-digit lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the night.

Up 33-19 coming into the second stanza, Hans Miersma (Fr./Whitinsville, Mass.) set the tone for what would be a overpowering offensive performance by the Scots, slamming home a dunk on the opening possession to start a 13-2 run en route to a 27-point lead with 13:45 on the clock. From there the Scots worked a substitution rotation which allowed every suited player to earn minutes and resulted in a well-rounded scoresheet, with all but two Scots netting points in the outing.

David Dempsey (Jr./Wallingford, Conn.) paced the win for Gordon with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks, while Park Thomas (So./Scottsdale, Ariz.) went 3-3 from behind the arc on his way to 13 total points. Additionally, guard Alex Carnes (So./Phoenix, Ariz.) chipped in 10 points and four rebounds and Miersma finished with eights points and seven boards.

UNE's effort was led by Nevin Lessard (Jr./Belgrade, Maine) with eight points and Ryan Knotek (Sr./Saratoga Spring, N.Y.), Sam Simpson (Jr./Eustis, Maine), and Jordan Ferreira (Fr./Nantucket, Mass.) who recorded six apiece.

The Scots look to keep the wins rolling as they travel to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday, February 4 for a 3:00p.m. tipoff. The Nor'easters, now 4-16 overall, 4-9 in conference, will host Roger Williams on the same day at 3:00p.m.
