Scots Cruise To 18-3 Win Over Vikings

Box Score Box Score

Braving the elements to host non-conference Salem State University at the Brigham Athletic Complex today, the Fighting Scots stamped their first win of the season in the books with authority, claiming an 18-3 victory over the visiting Vikings to move to 1-2 overall on the year.

Despite steady snowfall and slick conditions, the Scots got the scoring going early and never looked back, as a trio of goals from Mio Sison (Fr./Warren, Mich.), a pair from Adam Quinn (Sr./Gloucester, Mass.), and a single game-opening tally from Matt Dantona (Fr./Syosset, N.Y.) gave Gordon the 6-0 lead after one quarter of play. That lead was extended even further after just over five minutes of action in the second behind two goals from Sam Spellman (Fr./Lewes, Del.) and one from Wes Chittick (Sr./Glenside, Pa.), and though a single tally from Ryan Gendreau (Jr./Danvers, Mass.) broke the Vikings' silence, the Scots buckled down on the defensive end to maintain a 9-1 lead at the midway point.

Carrying that momentum into the second half, the Scots continued to dominate at both ends of the field, netting nine goals to Salem's two in the final 30 minutes to secure the impressive 15-goal victory.

Quinn and Sison paced the win for the Scots, finishing the day with four goals and two assists apiece, while Chittick and Dan Perednia (Sr./Granby, Conn.) recorded three goals and one assist apiece, Spellman netted two, and Dantona and Nate Masson (Fr./Vienna, Va.) rounded out the scoring with one each. Keeper Houston Zemanski (Jr./Annapolis, Md.) is credited with the win having played the first half with three saves, while Brian Lane (Fr./Rochester, N.Y.) and David Spencer (So./Middletown, N.Y.) split the second half with six saves between them.

For Salem, Gendreau, Ian Abrahamson (Fr./Billerica, Mass.), and Jesse Fentross (Jr./Tewksbury, Mass.) each netted single goals on the day, while Kyle Tuneburg (Sr./Beverly, Mass.) turned away nine in the losing effort.

The Scots take to the road on Saturday, March 3 as they travel to New England College for a non-conference tilt at 1:00p.m. Salem State will travel to Salve Regina University on the same day for a 1:00p.m. start.
