Scots Edged In Final Seconds By Rival Endicott, 70-67

Box Score
Hosting the Gulls of Endicott tonight in the battle of the North Shore, the Fighting Scots fought through 40 minutes of play only to fall short in the final seconds, ceding a 70-67 loss to the now 14-8 Gulls.

After the Gulls netted the first points of the game on the opening possession, the Scots stayed within striking distance, never allowing their guests to establish more than a five-point lead throughout the half. Then with 8:23 on the clock, Luke Hamilton (So./Mount Airy, N.C.) gave the Scots their first lead of the night (17-16) following a jumper from behind the arc. Quick to regain the lead, the Gulls' Bennett Knowlton (So./Shrewsbury, Mass.) converted on the next possession to begin a series of back and forth play that left the Gulls up, 31-26, at the break.

Opening the half with an offensive flurry, the Scots closed the gap and eventually overtook the lead, 36-35, after five minutes of play. That lead was short-lived, however, as Endicott stormed back to regain the advantage and push it to as many as 10 with seven minutes remaining. Determined not to go down quietly, the Scots went on a 10-0 run in the final three minutes behind six points from Park Thomas (So./Scottsdale, Ariz.) and four from David Dempsey (Jr./Wallingford, Conn.) to draw the game even with 27 seconds left. Holding the ball for the final possession, Endicott's Lance Green (Jr./Dorchester, Mass.) sealed the game for the Gulls, hitting one from the stripe following a conversion in the paint to lift his team to the three-point victory.

Green finished out the night with 19 points and two steals, while Makris netted 14 and grabbed eight boards and Tyler Burkhart (So./Cromwell, Conn.) contributed 10 points and six rebounds. Dempsey led Gordon with a 25-point, 12-rebound double-double, Thomas with 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, Hamilton with 11 points, and Hans Miersma (Fr./Whitinsville, Mass.) with 13 rebounds.

The Scots, now 8-14, 7-8 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), return to action on Saturday, February 11 at Salve Regina for a 3:00p.m. start. Endicott will travel to face CCC foe Curry College on the same day at 3:00p.m.
