Box Score
The Fighting Scots picked up their second win of the season today, claiming a 6-5 victory in extra innings over Massachusetts Maritime in front of their home crowd at J. Tec White Field. The loss drops the Buccaneers to 4-3 overall on the year.
The Scots found themselves down early after the Buccaneers broke out swinging for three unanswered runs in the first followed by one unanswered run in the second to make it 4-0 heading into the third. That all changed in the bottom of the third, however, as the Scots'
Jacob Syed (Fr./Niskayuna, N.Y.) RBI singled,
Eric Wolak (Sr./Trumbull, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI, and
Brian Harrington (Jr./Shoreham, N.Y.) ripped a three-run homer to overtake the lead, 5-4.
Three scoreless innings later, the Buccaneers' Zachary Sullivan (Jr./Barnstable, Mass.) picked up the game-tying RBI in the top of the seventh to make it a 5-5 ballgame, a deadlock that would remain at the end of nine to force extra innings. But after retiring Maritime at the plate in the top of the first extra frame, Wolak reached on an error at short while Syed came in from second on the same play for the game-winning run.
Ben Davidson (Jr./Sterling, Mass.) earned the win on the mound for Gordon, allowing just three hits and one run in 4.0 innings of work.
The Scots return to play tomorrow at 3:30p.m. as they host non-conference Lesley College.
