In a rematch of spring break RussMatt Invitational action today on Gordon's J. Tec White Field, the Fighting Scots picked up their second win in as many days, topping non-conference Lesley University, 7-4, to improve to 3-7 overall on the year.
After shutting the Lynx down 1-2-3 in the top of the opening inning, the Scots got their bats going for an early lead behind an RBI double from
Brian Harrington (Jr./Shoreham, N.Y.), who later crossed home on a Lesley error to make it 2-0 at the end of the first. That lead held up through a scoreless second until Lesley plated four runs in the top of the third, two of which were batted in by Ryan McQuade (Fr./Rochester, N.H.) and Jeff Gonzalez (Jr./Watertown, Mass.), to give the Lynx the 4-2 advantage.
With neither team able to gain any offensive traction in their next two series' at the plate, Gordon's Harrington collected another RBI in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to just one, after which
Carlos Pichardo (Fr./La Romana, Dominican Republic) ripped a solo shot for the tying run in the bottom of the next frame to make it a 4-4 game heading down the stretch.
Carrying that momentum at the plate into the seventh, the Scots got the go-ahead runs on a two-run RBI single from
Geoff Brown (Jr./East Moriches, N.Y.) and added one more for insurance in the bottom of the eighth on a
Dillon Coleman (Jr./Cromwell, Conn.) sac fly to right to secure the three-run win.
Wes Arning (Fr./Murfreesboro, Tenn.) earned the win on the mound for the Scots, allowing no hits and striking out five in 1.2 innings of work.
The Scots look to extend their streak as they travel to Curry on Saturday, March 24 for their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup of the season at 12:00p.m. Lesley, now 1-9 overall on the year, travels to Newbury College on the same day for a 4:00p.m. start.
