Box Score
The Fighting Scots preserved their unbeaten streak on the road in Boston, Mass. today, improving to a perfect 6-0 with a 17-9 victory over the host Lions of Emerson College.
Despite a pair of early free position goals from
Stephanie Fitzgerald (So./Groveland, Mass.) and single tallies from
Jocie Knaus (Sr./Kensington, Conn.) and
Kelly Linehan (So./White Plains, N.Y.), the Scots came out a bit sluggish in the opening stanza, allowing Emerson a trio of goals to make it 4-3 after nearly 20 minutes of play. From there, however, the Scots went on a 4-0 run behind two goals from
Jordan Alexander (Sr./Portland, Maine) and one more apiece from Knaus and Fitzgerald to widen the gap to 8-3 in the Scots' favor. And though Emerson's Tracie Lombardo (So./Seaford, N.Y.) would net back to back goals in the waning minutes, Fitzgerald closed out the scoring in the half to provide Gordon the 9-5 advantage at the break.
Hoping to gain some ground in the start of the second, the Lions' Chelsea Philips (So./Waterford, Conn.) netted two in the first six minutes of the period, one of which was answered by the Scots on a
Jane Dietrich (So./West Hartford, Conn.) to
Anna Blomberg (So./Simsbury, Conn.) score, making it a 10-7 ballgame. Once again, though, the Scots went on an offensive tear, netting seven unanswered goals over the course of the next 12 minutes to put the game out of comeback reach for the Lions.
Alexander finished the outing with five goals and a pair of assists, while Fitzgerald contributed four goals, two assists, and five draw controls, Knaus netted a hat trick with one assist, Blomberg finished with a pair of goals and assists, and Linehan,
Abby Illian (Fr./Hillsdale, N.J.), and
Becky Smith (Fr./Verona, N.J.) each chipped in one. Additionally,
Krysti Leach (Sr./Naples, Maine) won the battle at the center draw with a game-high 10 draw controls to go with three assists, and keeper
Danielle Maguire (So./Braintree, Mass.) turned away 10 to earn the win in the net.
The Scots return to the field on Saturday, March 24 as they host Nichols College in their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game at 1:00p.m.
