Men's Tennis Edged In CCC Opener With Wentworth, 5-4

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth men’s tennis team edged Gordon, 5-4, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both team, played at Harvard University’s Beren Tennis Center.

The Leopards took two of the three doubles flights as junior Juan Rodriguez (Quito, Ecuador) teamed with senior Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) at number one to defeat the Fighting Scots’ tandem of senior Gary Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) and sophomore Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.). Senior Joe Centola (Hopkinton, Mass.) teamed with junior Dave Filar (Wolcott, Conn.) at number two to defeat Gordon senior Dan Cormier (Ipswich, Mass.) and freshman Sam Mason (Cumberland, Maine), 9-7. Gordon picked up a win at number three as senior Mike Muthersbaugh (Danvers, Mass.) and junior Greg Dry (Madison, Conn.) edged sophomore Thuan Nguyen (Randolph, Mass.) and freshman Dyln Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.).

Rodriguez defeated Gary Gaudio at number one singles, 6-0, 6-0, to give Wentworth a 3-1 lead before FIlar bested Muthersbaugh at number five, 6-4, 6-2. Centola clinched the match for the Black & Gold with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win over Mason at number four. Dry and Cormier needed three sets to win their number three and number six matches over Gove and Melnik before Kenny Gaudio defeated Nguyen at number two to close out the match.
