Newbury Topples Gordon In Non-Conference Action

Box Score

The Fighting Scots dropped their second game in as many days today, falling to non-conference Newbury, 14-3, to move to 4-10 overall on the season. With the win Newbury improves to an even 10-10 overall.

Newbury got the scoring going early as Patrick Curry (Sr./Hampstead, N.H.) RBI singled to score Corey Keane (Fr./Tolland, Conn.) for the 1-0 lead after the first. That lead was extended in the second when Cameron D'Agostino (Fr./Salisbury, Mass.) grounded out but plated Keane in the process to make it 2-0. The Scots kept it close in the bottom of the same inning, though, as Carlos Pichardo (Fr./La Romana, Dominican Republic) sac flied to left to score Brian Harrington (Jr./Shoreham, N.Y.) to close the gap to 2-1.

From there on out the game belonged to the Nighthawks, however, as they went on to score in every inning but the sixth, compiling a 14-2 lead through the top of the ninth. And although the Scots' Joe Campbell (Fr./Coopersburg, Pa.) singled to drive home Stephen Crawford (So./Haddon Heights, N.J.) from second, Newbury's lead proved too much in the end as the Scots ceded the 11-run home loss.

Matthew Clawson (Jr./Tolland, Conn.) led Newbury's outing going 3-5 with three RBI, while Michael Dwyer (So./Hamden, Conn.) also went 3-5 with two RBI, Curry recorded two RBI on a pair of hits, and Alex Chetelat (Sr./Farmington, Conn.), Michael Dean (Sr./Wethersfield, Conn.), D'Agostino, and Christopher Murphy (So./Griswold, Conn.) each recorded a single RBI. Jorge Pimentel (Sr./Winsted, Conn.) earned the win on the mound after allowing two runs and just four hits in 5.0 innings.

Pichardo, Campbell, and Eric Wolak (Sr./Trumbull, Conn.) were responsible for Gordon's only three runs on the day, while Ben Davidson (Jr./Sterling, Mass.) is credited with the loss.

The Scots host their third consecutive non-conference game tomorrow as they welcome Rivier to J. Tec White Field for a 3:00p.m. start.
