Box Score
Looking to break a two-game skid this week, the Fighting Scots did so with authority against the visiting Raiders of Rivier College today, cruising to a 22-3 win to improve to 5-10 overall on the season, 3-3 on their home turf. The loss drops Rivier to 1-15 overall on the year.
After holding the Raiders scoreless in the top of the first, Gordon got on the board in the bottom of the same inning when
Dillon Coleman (Jr./Cromwell, Conn.) brought in
Jacob Syed (Fr./Niskayuna, N.Y.) and
Eric Wolak (Sr./Trumbull, Conn.) drove home Coleman from third on an RBI single to give the Scots the early 2-0 advantage. Keeping it close, the Raiders matched the Scots' offense with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the second on a Lucas Palma (Fr./Bristol, Conn.) sac fly to right and an Arthur Hoffman (So./Malden, Mass.) RBI single.
The day from there belonged almost entirely to the Scots at the plate, however, as they went on to record runs in every inning but the eighth, including a resounding seven-run effort in the sixth which saw a Coleman RBI single, a
James Burrell (Fr./Decatur, Ga.) grand slam in the middle of the inning, and a
Carlos Pichardo (Fr./La Romana, Dominican Republic) RBI double. With a hefty 22-2 lead in place heading into the final frame, Rivier could muster just one more run in response to the Scots' heavy bats on a Matthew St. Peter (Jr./Colchester, Vt.) RBI, leaving Gordon in command for the victory.
Coleman led the way for the Scots going 4-6 with four RBI, while Burrell also recorded four RBI with his grand slam,
Brian Harrington (Jr./Shoreham, N.Y.) posted three RBI in a 3-4 outing, and Syed, Wolak, and
John Brownell (Fr./Glastonbury, Conn.) each tallied two RBI. Rounding out the scoring were
Geoff Brown (Jr./East Moriches, N.Y.),
Jeffrey Brown (So./Sherborn, Mass.), Pichardo, and
Kris Camelio (Sr./Lexington, Mass.) who tallied one RBI apiece. Picking up the win from the mound was
Colin Strapp (So./Philadelphia, Pa.), who allowed just one hit in 4.0 innings.
The Scots have a day off from competition tomorrow before hitting the road to face Roger Williams in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 31 at 12:00p.m.
