Scots Edged In CCC Outing With Salve, 5-4

Match Results

After being forced indoors by weather to the Bass River Tennis Club in nearby Beverly, the Fighting Scots battled but in the end came up short at the hands of visiting Salve Regina University, 5-4, to fall to 1-8 overall on the year. The win marks the first of the season for the Seahawks, who are now 1-10.

The Scots looked in good shape heading into singles play as Dan Cormier (Sr./Ipswich, Mass.) and Sam Mason (Fr./Cumberland, Maine) cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles and Mike Muthersbaugh (Sr./Troy, N.Y.) and Greg Dry (Jr./Madison, Conn.) captured a 9-7 win at No. 3 to give Gordon the 2-1 lead.

Cormier carried the momentum from doubles play into his solo effort, posting a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles while teammate Muthersbaugh did the same in a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5. In the end, however, the Seahawks rallied for the overall victory behind individual winning efforts at No. 1 by Zachary Rosenfeld (Sr./Easton, Conn.), No. 2 by Aaron Isch (Jr./Tolland, Conn.), No. 4 by Mike Gallerani (Fr./Fairfield, Conn.), and No. 6 by Malcom Marshall (Fr./Topsham, Maine) to notch their first tally in the win column this season.

The Scots return to the court on Monday, April 2 at 4:00p.m. when they host non-conference Clark University. The Seahawks host conference opponent Nichols College on Tuesday, April 3 at 3:30p.m.
