Scots Split CCC Twinbill With Eastern Nazarene

Box Score (game one)
Box Score (game two)

In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader with the visiting Lions of Eastern Nazarene College today on J. Tec White Field, the Fighting Scots captured a 3-2 win in game one but couldn't sustain that momentum for the nightcap, falling 8-3 to move to 6-11 overall, 2-2 in conference on the year. The split moves ENC to 3-17 overall, 2-6 in the CCC.

Gordon struck first on the day in the bottom of the opening inning as Ben Davidson (Jr./Sterling, Mass.) led off with a single and later scored on an error at short to give the Scots the early 1-0 lead. That lead did not last for long, though, as ENC's Max Pugh (So./San Diego, Calif.) opened the second inning with a walk-off home run to even the game at 1-1. Then, after several scoreless innings, Gordon took over the lead once again in the bottom of the fifth when Erik Wolak (Sr./Trumbull, Conn.) ripped a two-RBI double to bring in Dillon Coleman (Jr./Cromwell, Conn.) and Davidson and put the Scots up, 3-1. And although the Lions would inch closer on a Michael Chiaradio (Jr./Teaneck, N.J.) RBI in the top of the seventh, Brian Harrington (Jr./Shoreham, N.Y.) closed out the game striking out Anthony Berroa (So.Teaneck, N.J.) to seal the one-run victory. Davidson improved to 2-1 overall from the mound after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts, while Harrington is credited with the save.

In the nightcap, both teams were silent at the plate until Wolak went yard in the bottom of the fourth to give Gordon the slight 1-0 advantage. Much the same as game one, however, ENC answered right back for a run of their own in the top of the next frame when Ryan Garza (So./Elsa, Texas) RBI singled to bring in Berroa and draw the game back to even. From there a tug of war of scoring ensued, as Jacob Syed (Fr./Niskayuna, N.Y.) would cross home on an ENC error in the top of five to put the Scots back on top, to which the Lions' Johan Villalona (Sr./Bronx, N.Y.) responded with a three-run homer to overtake the lead, 4-2, in top of the sixth. Gordon closed the gap by one when Wolak scored in the bottom of the same inning, but that proved as close to the comeback as the Scots would get as ENC went on to bring in a trio of runs in the top of seven behind an RBI from Danny Rodriguez (Sr./Bronx, N.Y.) and two from Berroa to secure the 8-3 win. Jeremy Cook (Sr./Hatfield, Pa.) is credited the win on the mound after allowing four hits and striking out 12 in a full game's work.

The Scots travel to Roger Williams tomorrow for another CCC twinbill beginning at 2:00p.m., while ENC takes a break from conference action to host Emerson on Wednesday, April 4 at 3:30p.m.
