Scots Upended By NEWMAC's Clark

Match Results

Taking a break from Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action to host the NEWMAC's Clark University today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the visiting Cougars proved altogether too strong for the Scots, who fell 8-1 at the hands of their guests to drop to 1-9 overall on the year. With the win the Cougars improve to 9-1 at the midpoint of their regular season.

In doubles play, Clark's Dan Stein (So./Newton, Mass.) and Josh Burger (Fr./Fairfield, Conn.) and Zach Goodstein (Fr./Columbus, Ohio) and Dan Hall (Jr./Sutton, Mass.) posted dominant performances at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively, as both pairs captured 8-2 wins to start the outing for the Cougars. Following them with a commanding win were teammates Phillip Porter (Jr./Cortland Manor, N.Y.) and Spencer Brightman (So./Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 3, who bested Gordon's Mike Muthersbaugh (Sr./Troy, N.Y.) and Greg Dry (Jr./Madison, Conn.) to leave the Scots trailing 3-0 heading into singles play.

And though Kenny Gaudio (So./Miller Place, N.Y.) battled to a three-set win over Goodstein at No. 2 singles, that turned out to be the Scots' lone win of the day, as no Clark player ceded more than two games per set in the remaining singles matches to cruise to the overall win.

The Scots look to break their three-match skid as they host non-conference Salem State on Thursday, April 5 at 4:00p.m., while the Cougars hope to notch their 10th consecutive victory when they host MIT in a NEWMAC duel on Wednesday, April 4 at 4:00p.m.
