Scots Shoot Down Hawks In CCC Tilt, 20-9

Box Score
Hosting the Hawks of Roger Williams University tonight in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) grudge match at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots shot down the Hawks, 20-9, to improve to 11-3 overall on the year, 4-2 in conference play. The loss drops Roger Williams to 5-11, 3-4 in league action.

Stephanie Fitzgerald (So./Groveland, Mass.) led the way for the Scots with a three-goal, four-assist, 13-draw control effort, while Anna Blomberg (So./Simsbury, Conn.) recorded three goals, three assists, and five draw controls on the day. Additionally, Jordan Alexander (Sr./Portland, Maine) tallied four goals and one assist, Jane Dietrich (So./West Hartford, Conn.) and Jocie Knaus (Sr./Kensington, Conn.) each booked three, and Kari Christensen (So./Standish, Maine), Kelly Linehan (So./White Plains, N.Y.), Abby Illian (Fr./Hillsdale, N.J.), and Krysti Leach (Sr./Naples, Maine) rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Leach also grabbed five draw controls out of the defensive midfield in the win.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead behind unassisted goals from Alexander and Fitzgerald, Roger Williams responded with three straight, two from Danica Delia (Sr./Norwalk, Conn.) and one from Deven Machette (Fr./Norwalk, Conn.), to overtake the lead, 3-2. The Scots answered right back, however, with three of their own from Linehan, Leach, and Blomberg to make it a 5-3 game after 10 minutes of play. And though the Hawks equalized with a free position from Samantha Davenport (Fr./Bethel, Conn.) and a single tally Dana Wilfahrt (Jr./Hamilton, Mass.), the Scots went on an 8-0 tear to close out the half and widen the gap to 13-5 at the midway point.

In the second half, though Roger Williams' Machette and Danielle Neagle (So./Avon, Conn.) opened with a pair of goals in the first five minutes, Gordon surged again offensively with a 7-2 run over the remainder of the half to put the game out of reach.

Danielle Maguire (So./Braintree, Mass.) turned away three of the Hawks' attempts in the win for Gordon, while Justine Sullivan (Jr./Norwell, Mass.) is credited with the loss.

The Scots close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 24 as they play host to Curry College in a CCC duel at 7:00p.m.
