Match Results
The Fighting Scots dropped their fourth straight match today in a non-conference duel with Salem State at the Brigham Athletic Complex, falling 6-3 to the visiting Vikings to slide to 1-10 overall on the season. The win improves Salem State to 3-5 overall at the midway point of their schedule.
In doubles play,
Gary Gaudio (Sr./Miller Place, N.Y.) and
Kenny Gaudio (So./Miller Place, N.Y.) battled Josh Giller (Sr./Peabody, Mass.) and Rob Random (Sr./Newbury, Mass.) at No. 1 in a hard-fought grudge match but in the end ceded a 9-8 loss. Similarly,
Mike Muthersbaugh (Sr./Troy, N.Y.) and
Greg Dry (Jr./Madison, Conn.) were felled 9-7 after a close matchup with Kristian Biedul (Jr./Podkowa Lesinas, Poland) and Jong Joe Kim (Seoul, South Korea) at No. 3, while Salem's Eglis Bizhoti (Dorchester, Mass.) and Matt Lee (Jr./Pembroke, Mass.) grabbed an 8-3 win at No. 2 to leave the Scots at a 3-0 deficit heading into singles play.
Both Gaudios rebounded from their doubles loss to capture wins in singles action, with Gary taking a three-set win over Lee at No. 1 (6-0, 3-6, 6-4) and Kenny a two-set win over Bizhoti at No. 2 (6-1, 7-6 (7-4)). Muthersbaugh also responded to his doubles loss with a win in solo play, soundly defeating Biedul at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2) to inch the Scots closer in their comeback.
In the end, however, Salem sealed the victory with straight set wins in the remaining singles matches to hand the Scots the loss.
The Scots return to conference play following the Easter break on Wednesday, April 11 as they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 3:30p.m. start. Salem will travel to Western Connecticut State for a league match on Saturday, April 7.
