Scots Draw 2-2 With Framingham In Season Opener

Box Score
Hosting non-conference Framingham State in their home season-opener today on Gordon's Quad, the Fighting Scots and visiting Rams battled through 110 minutes of play to end in a 2-2 draw.

The Scots got on the board in the early going when David Egeler (So.Danbury, Conn.) launched a throw from the left side into the area which was misdirected into the net off a Framingham defender to give Gordon the 1-0 lead. Framingham's Bryan DaSilva (Fr./Milford, Mass.) then netted the equalizer in the 23rd minute on a penalty kick following a Gordon takedown in the box, burying the ball in the left side netting to make it a 1-1 ballgame. Despite 12 total shots and 11 corners over the course of the half, the Scots were unable to find the back of the net again and entered the break locked in a stalemate.

Then in the second stanza, the Rams' Jepherson Cardoso (Jr./Framingham, Mass.) collected a pass from Romulo Carvalho (So./Milford, Mass.) at the left corner of the box and bested keeper Ryan Coil (Sr./Brentwood, Tenn.) in the far upper 90 to give Framingham the 2-1 lead with 35 minutes to play. The Scots once again applied heavy offensive pressure throughout the half, finally finding their elusive second goal when Andrew Vandervoort (Jr./Memphis, Tenn.) sent home a slot pass from reserve Chris Carlson (Fr./Wenham, Mass.) for the game-tying goal in the 84th minute.

With that score holding through regulation, the Scots got their first viable opportunity in extra time when Framingham's Ryan Boughter (So./Rockland, Mass.) received a red card after taking down Vandervoort from behind at the top of the box, giving Gordon a direct from 20 yards out. The ensuing direct kick, however, ricocheted off the wall and was collected by Rams keeper Sam Yoder (Jr./Southbridge, Mass.). The Scots nearly took control again when Luke Partain (Sr./Wheaton, Ill.) headed a corner off the crossbar with just five minutes to play, but Framingham's defense cleared the ball to safety to preserve the eventual 2-2 draw.

Gordon keeper Coil finished the outing with four saves, while Yoder had a busy day in net for the Rams with 15 saves.

The Scots return to play on Tuesday, Sept. 4 as they travel to take on non-conference Daniel Webster at 4:00p.m., while Framingham will host MIT on the same day at 1:00p.m.
