Engineers Cruise To 5-0 Win Over Scots

Box Score
The Engineers of Massachusetts Institute of Technology cruised to a 5-0 win over the host Fighting Scots in non-conference field hockey action today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, tallying four second half goals to secure their fifth win of the season (5-1). With the loss Gordon falls to 1-4 overall on the year.

MIT wasted little time getting on the board in the first as defender Maddy Wharton (Jr./Swarthmore, Pa.) hit home a pass from forward Molly Duffy (Jr./New Providence, N.J.) in the eighth minute for the 1-0 lead. Despite MIT recording another 14 shots in the period, the Scots' defense and keeper Anna Bury (Jr./Huntingtown, Md.) turned away each of the Engineers' attempts to keep it a one-goal game at the half.

Behind a relentless offensive effort that fired off 36 total shots in the second stanza, however, MIT blew up that gap with a pair of goals from Duffy and one apiece from Elizabeth Dethy (So./Morristown, N.J.) and Olivia Massey (Fr./Greenbackville, Va.) to put the game out of reach for Gordon.

Also stamping their names on the scoresheet were Molly McShane (Sr./Lake Bluff, Ill.), Caitlin Mackey (So./San Diego, Calif.), and Sarah Fay (So./South Hadley, Mass.), who recorded an assist each in the second half for the Engineers.

Bury finished the night with 24 saves while MIT keeper Jenna Klein (So./Parma, Ohio) had a silent night in the cage with no saves.

The Scots open conference play on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they host rival Endicott College at 1:00p.m. MIT travels for a NEWMAC showdown with Babson on the same day at 12:00p.m.
