Scots Blanked By Gulls In CCC Opener

Box Score
In their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener today at the Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots were blanked by the visiting Gulls of Endicott, 5-0, to fall to 1-5 overall, 0-1 in conference this season. With the win Endicott improves to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in the CCC.

Endicott broke the silence with back-to-back goals by Taylor Matties (Sr./Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Melissa Enright (Sr./York Beach, Maine) in the 14th and 15th minutes, respectively, to leave the Scots at a 2-0 deficit that held until the half.

Then in the second stanza, the Gulls extended that lead to 5-0 in a span of 13 minutes behind Matties’ and Enright's second goals of the day and one from Hannah Thornberg (Sr./Oakland, Maine) to build a significant lead over the host Scots.

Despite heavy offensive pressure and a total of 30 shots in the half, however, the Scots were unable find the back of the net thanks in large part to 17 saves by Endicott keeper Taylor Teixeira (Sr./Exeter, N.H.), who preserved the shutout with a total of 22 saves on the day.

Gordon’s Anna Bury (Jr./Huntingtown, Md.) turned away nine of the Gulls’ attempts in the loss.

The Scots travel to non-conference Framingham State on Tuesday, Sept. 18 for a 4:00p.m. start, while Endicott returns home to host Salem State on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4:00p.m.
