Box Score
In a non-conference men's soccer duel between Gordon and North Shore rival Salem State tonight at the Brigham Athletic Complex, Salem State captured a 2-1 victory behind a late game-winner to drop the Fighting Scots to 1-5-1 overall on the season. The win improves the Vikings to 3-4.
The Scots took command of the game early when defenseman
Ryan Daley (Sr./Byfield, Mass.) finished a ball from teammate
David Egeler (So./Danbury, Conn.) in the fourth minute to give Gordon the 1-0 lead.
That lead held through an evenly matched first half and on into the opening minutes of the second until Salem's Saimir Zepaj (Jr./Peabody, Mass.) netted his first of the night on a solo effort in the 48th minute to make it a 1-1 ballgame. Though both teams pressured forward throughout the half, it was Zepaj again who broke the stalemate in the 85th minute with his second unassisted effort of the night to lift the Vikings to the one-goal victory.
Keeper Scott Hall (Sr./Waltham, Mass.) recorded six saves for Salem in the win, while Gordon's
Tim Hardy (Jr./Gorham, Maine) also turned away six on the night.
The Scots return to conference action on Saturday, Sept. 22 as they travel to the University of New England for a 2:30p.m. start. The Vikings have a quick turnaround as they hit the road to face UMass Boston tomorrow at 3:30p.m.
