Wentworth Edges Gordon In CCC Matchup, 3-2

In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action tonight at Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots were edged by the visiting Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-2, to move to 5-5 overall, 0-2 in conference on the season. The win improves Wentworth to 4-5 overall, 1-0 in league play.

Gordon came out of the gates to capture the momentum at the outset of the match, taking a 25-18 win in the opening frame for the early 1-0 lead. From there both teams traded 25-18 sets to even the match at two apiece and force a deciding fifth set.

Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) stepped up in the final set to record four kills for the Scots while teammate Joy Kimmel (So./Madison, Conn.) followed suit with six assists and three digs. Not to be outdone, however, the Leopards withstood the Scots' best efforts to book a 15-12 decision and 3-2 overall victory behind three kills from Michelle Hobbs (Jr./Northwood, N.H.).

Kimmel finished the night with 37 assists, nine digs, five aces, and five block assists, while Kranyak collected 14 kills. 

Hobbs led the winning effort for Wentworth tallying 19 kills, seven digs, and four aces, while Julie Rahilly (Sr./Nashua, N.H.) posted 15 digs, 14 kills and Jessica Houghton (So./Billerica, Mass.) contributed 33 digs.

The Scots return to play on Friday, Sept. 21 as they travel for the Green Mountain Invitational in Poultney, Vt. Wentworth will travel to non-conference Regis on Saturday, Sept. 22 for an 11:00a.m. start.
