Gordon vs. Green Mountain
Poultney, Vt. –
Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.) hit at a .366 clip and registered a match-high 19 kills as Gordon College edged past Green Mountain College 3-1 on Friday evening at the Eagle Dome. The win propelled the Fighting Scots to a 6-5 overall record on the year while the Eagles fall to 2-8 on the season.
In addition to Kranyak’s powerful performance, setter
Joy Kimmel (So./Madison, Conn.)provided superb setting during the entire match earning 35 assists in the four-set match.
Defensive specialist and captain
Keri Hustus (Sr./Eastford, Conn.) controlled the defense racking up a match-high 26 digs. Her service game was also strong as she served 10 of the team’s 18 aces in the match.
Leading the way offensively for the Eagles was outside hitter Megan Roy (Fr./Franklin, Mass.) who had a team-high seven kills while also providing the team with 10 digs. The Eagles’ other outside hitter, Kara Egan (Jr./Breezy Point, N.Y.), patrolled the back half of the court and was the team’s leading defender registering 17 digs. Setter Jennifer Seredejko (Jr./Greenfield, Mass.) added six service aces to her team-high 15 assists.
As a team, the Fighting Scots outhit the Eagles .065 to .018 and scored an advantage from the serving line with an .896 serving percentage compared to .837 for the Eagles.
Gordon will play in the next match of the evening against Brooklyn while the Eagles will wait to play against Brooklyn at 1 p.m.
Gordon vs. Brooklyn
Poultney, Vt.- Gordon College defeated Brooklyn College in three straight sets in Friday night volleyball action at the Eagle Dome. With the win, Gordon College improves its record to 7-5 on the season, while Brooklyn slips to 1-8 overall.
Gordon dominated the first match with a convincing 25-10 win. The Fighting Socts were able to capitalize off several Brooklyn errors to take an early lead and cruised to the first set victory.
The Bull Dogs attempted to claw their way back as they took advantage of Gordon’s eight attacking errors in set two, but could not sustain the momentum and lost the second set 25-15. Brooklyn struggled defensively and the team committed ten attacking errors against just four kills. To the Scots credit, the women did dig up several tough attacks by the Bull Dogs.
The Bull Dogs came out with enthusiasm to begin the third match, but ultimately fell short, losing 25-23 in a close set. Gordon, who looked somewhat fatigued
entering the third set of its back-to-back matches, struggled defensively as they committed a match-high ten team attack errors. The Fighting Scots had just enough offensive firepower, however, to eke out the Bulldogs and earn their seventh win of the season.
Gordon’s Chelsie Clemens (Jr./Santa Barbara, Calif.) with a team high 11 kills, played a vital role in all three matches, along with teammates Lauren Kranyak, and Faith Gerdes (So./Wall Lake, Iowa), who tallied seven kills each. Defensive specialist and captain Keri Hustus recorded a match-high 12 digs, while setter Joy Kimmel recorded 25 assists.
The Bull Dogs were led offensively by Jillian Escobar (Jr./Queens Village, N.Y.) who tallied four kills. Kayla Scurry (So./Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Sasha Roopchand (Fr./Maruga, Trinidad) each notched six digs apiece in the loss. A strong performance was had by the team’s blockers as Brooklyn recorded several points off timely blocks. Manon Bailly (Jr./Harlem, N.Y.) scored two solo blocks to lead the way while Kristen King (Jr./Ozone Park, N.Y.) recorded a solo block and three block assists.
Both teams are back in action again tomorrow as Gordon wraps up its games in the quad-match with a game against Bay Path College at 11 a.m., while Brooklyn will take on host Green Mountain College at 1 p.m.

Gordon vs. Bay Path
Poultney, Vt. – Gordon College remained undefeated during the quad-match held at Green Mountain this past weekend as the Fighting Scots battled to a 3-1 victory over Bay Path College Saturday morning at the Eagle Dome. Gordon took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-15 before losing the third set 19-25. The Scots clinched the match victory with a close 25-23 win in the fourth set.
The Fighting Scots (8-5) were once again led by outside hitter Lauren Kranyak who paced the Gordon attack with 18 kills against only five errors for a .295 kill percentage. Setter Joy Kimmel directed the offense with a match-high 33 assists. Defensively, captain Keri Hustus solidified the back of the court by recording a match-high 20 digs.
Bay Path (5-4) was led offensively by Arriadne Sykes who tallied 10 kills, followed by Elizabeth Haylette who had eight. Defensively, the Wildcats were buoyed by libero Kacie Bayreuther who notched a team high 15 digs. Sykes and Amber Cohens were a force at the net. Sykes recorded two solo and two block assists while Cohens tallied three block assists.
Bay Path will play later in the day against Brooklyn College at 3 p.m. while Gordon returns home after three quick matches.
