Box Score
The Fighting Scots snapped a six-game losing streak in non-conference field hockey action tonight at the Brigham Athletic Complex, cruising to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Pride of Regis College to move to 2-8 overall on the year. The loss leaves the Pride still winless on the season as they drop to 0-7.
Gordon wasted little time taking control of the game as
Melanie Landis (Sr./Quakertown, Pa.) finished a feed from
Karli Balmer (So./Perkasie, Pa.) just seven minutes into the game to establish the early 1-0 lead. Despite outshooting their guests 24-2 in the half, however, Landis' tally proved to be the only one of the opening stanza, leaving the score within one at the midway point.
That all changed in favor of the Scots in the second half, as Gordon went on a scoring tear behind goals from
Mindy Fowler (Sr./Winslow, Maine), Balmer, Landis, and
Carissa Fraser (Fr./Seaford, N.Y.) in a 20 minute span to widen the gap to 5-0 with just under 12 minutes to play.
The Pride finally broke their silence when Devan Wirtanen (Fr./Westminster, Mass.) broke loose and buried an unassisted tally in the 68th minute to get her team on the board, but that was as close as Regis would get as the Scots' defense tightened down the stretch to secure the four-goal win.
Balmer finished the night with three assists to go with her single tally, while keepers
Anna Bury (Jr./Huntingtown, Md.) and
Abigail Lutz (Fr./Winslow Maine) combined for six saves in the win.
Regis keepers Morgan Mitchell (Jr./Ashburnham, Mass.) and Raegan Heck (Fr./Phillipston, Mass.) split time in net to turn away 23 of Gordon's attempts on the night.
The Scots return to conference play as they travel to Nichols College on Saturday, Sept. 29 for a 12p.m. start. Regis seeks their elusive first win at Clark on the same day at 11a.m.
