Box Score
Hosting Babson in a non-conference matchup today at a rainy Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots were upended by an aggressive Beaver offense, 4-1, to fall to 0-2 overall on the season. The win improves Babson to 2-1 overall.
Babson's Morgan Lockwood (Jr./Feeding Hills, Mass.) led all scorers with two goals and one assist in the outing, while Tricia McQuade (Jr./Barrington, R.I.) and Caroline Malone (So./Walpole, Mass.) recorded a goal and an assist each. Scoring the lone tally for the Scots was
Karli Balmer (So./Perkasie, Pa.) with her first of the season, assisted by
Brittany Hawkins (So./Hampstead, N.H.).
The Beavers wasted no time getting their offense going as McQuade converted a solo effort just one minute into play to give her team the early 1-0 advantage. Just three and a half minutes later, Lockwood extended that lead to 2-0 after finishing a feed from Malone from close range.
Showing some signs of life on their attacking end of the field, the Scots answered back in the 10th minute when Balmer collected a pass from Hawkins and bested Babson netminder Kayla Florence (Jr./Milton, Mass.) to bring the game back within one.
That proved as close as Gordon would get, however, as Babson's Malone notched her tally in the 18th minute and Lockwood added one for security in the waning minutes of the first half to put the game out of reach.
Scots keeper Anna Bury (Jr./Huntingtown, Md.) turned away nine shots in the effort, while Florence earned the win with two saves.
The Scots return to their home turf to square off against non-conference University of Southern Maine on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 4:00p.m. Babson is back at it on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1:00p.m. as they travel to take on the University of New England.
