Luke Partain’s (Wheaton, Ill.) unassisted tally off a turnover proved to be the difference in the 46
th minute and Gordon held off host Daniel Webster, 1-0 in regional men’s soccer action Tuesday at Eagle Field.
Partain’s score gave the Scots (1-0-1) their first victory of the season in the first ever meeting between the two programs, while the host Eagles (0-2) dropped their second 1-0 decision to start their season.
The matchup was a defensive battle throughout as Gordon eeked out a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal but were aided offensively with eight corner kicks while holding the Eagles to none.
DWC saw its best chance late in the first half after forcing a midfield turnover and rookie Fabian Melo (Northborough, Mass.) moved on a partial breakaway, but was stoned in close by Scot keeper Ryan Coil (Brentwood, Tenn.), who made one his three saves on the afternoon.
Eagle rookie Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.) finished with four stops including a beauty off Gordon’s Alek Duba (Bristol, N.H.) late in the second half.
DWC heads out on the road for their next four contests beginning with New England College on Thursday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Gordon visits Anderson College in Delaware, Ohio on Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
