Box Score
The Fighting Scots bested Commowealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Endicott College tonight, 70-63, in a North Shore battle at Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center. The win lifts the Scots to 10-5 overall and 5-3 in the CCC, while Endicott drops to 7-7 overall, 2-5 in conference.
The Scots were led by four double-digit scoring performances with
David Dempsey (Sr./ Wallingford, Conn.) netting 18,
Shaun Roach (Jr./Weymouth, Mass.) converting 16, and
Park Thomas (Jr./Scotsdale, Ariz.) and
Luke Hamilton (Jr./Mount Airy, N.C.) tallying 12 and 11, respectively.
Hans Miersma (So./Whitinsville, Mass.) was strong down low with 11 rebounds and three blocks on the night.
As a team Gordon shot 43.1 percent from the floor (25-58), going 7-17 from behind the arc, while Endicott converted 36.4 percent of the time, netting 6-21 from long range.
After the Scots jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, the Gulls responded with a 12-0 run to make it a 14-5 ballgame at 13:36. Endicott maintained the advantage, pushing it to as many as 11 at two different points, but the Scots utilized a 10-0 run including a clutch three from Roach to close out the half up 35-34.
The second half was a game of back-and-forth, but it was a dunk from Dempsey at 14:11 that provided the spark the Scots needed to carry them to victory. After exchanging the lead eight times, Roach netted a jumper that gave Gordon the lead for good with just over 12 minutes to play.
Despite going down by as many as six points, the Gulls were not yet willing to cede the victory to the Scots. A three-pointer from Matt Ellis (Fr./Westford, Mass.) would give the Gulls their best chance, tying the game at 60-60 with 4:52 left to play.
From there, though, Gordon would go 6-6 from the stripe and hold the Gulls to only three-points to close out the night with the 70-63 CCC win.
Endicott's effort was led by a 14-point, 12-board double-double from Lance Greene (Sr./Dorchester, Mass.), while John Henault (So./Lunenburg, Mass.) chipped in 15 points and Bennett Knowlton (Jr./Shrewsbury, Mass.) added 12.
The Scots return to action on Saturday, January 19 at 12:00p.m. as they travel to take on the Bison of Nichols College, while the Gulls will host UNE on Thursday, January 17 at 7:30p.m.
