Scots Topped By Gulls In CCC Opener, 14-3

Box Score
Hosting the Gulls of rival Endicott College in their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener, the Fighting Scots were downed by their guests, 14-3, to drop to 0-2 overall on the season. The win marks the Gulls' first of the young season as they improve to 1-1 overall.

Sophomore Kyle Weber (West Hartford, Conn.) led the way for Endicott with three goals, while senior Connor McCormack (Norwalk, Conn.) registered two goals and an assist and juniors Jonny Kovach (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Chris Murphy (Natick, Mass.) notched two apiece. Rounding out the scoring for Endicott with a goal each were sophomores Harrison Cotter (Lordship, Conn.) and Jonathan Morgan (Lake Panamoka, N.Y.), junior Kevin Butler (Natick, Mass.), and senior Brendan Hunter (Medford, Mass.), while rookie keeper Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine) turned away 12 for his first collegiate win.

Gordon received single tallies from three different scorers as sophomore Sam Spellman (Lewes, Del.) netted his fourth of the year and handed out one assist and sophomore Jordan Heckelmann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Kenny Stirling (Sterling, Mass.) recorded their first goals of the season. Senior keeper Houston Zemanski (Annapolis, Md.) is tabbed with the loss despite making eight saves in the cage for the Scots.

After a scoreless opening five minutes, the Gulls' Butler put his team on the board with an unassisted tally at the 9:23 mark and went on to assist Weber just a minute later to give Endicott the early 2-0 advantage. The Scots notched what proved to be their only goal of the half at 5:33 when Heckelmann buried a Spellman feed to draw the game back to within one.

Endicott then went on an offensive tear, scoring 11 straight goals while holding the Scots scoreless over the next 36 minutes to establish a lead the Scots could not overcome despite a pair of fourth quarter goals from Spellman and Stirling.

With the win, Endicott Head Coach Sean Quirk earned his 200th career victory in this his 16th season at the helm. He is currently the 5th-winningest active coach in Division III and 11th-winningest all-time.

The Scots are back at it on Saturday, March 2 as they travel to face non-conference Eastern Connecticut State University at 12 p.m. Endicott has a week off before hosting non-conference Skidmore at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6.
