On day two of spring break action in Hilton Head, S.C., the Fighting Scots were narrowly defeated, 5-4, by Greenville College to move to 0-2 overall on the season.
Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and
Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) took an 8-4 win off Jon Urshan (Fr./Centralia, Ill.) and Andrew Herlein (So./Spring Arbor, Mich.) at No. 1 doubles to open the day, but the Scots found themselves down 2-1 heading into singles play after dropping the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.
In singles play, the Scots made a run for the overall victory as Hall kept his unbeaten streak alive with a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 win over Urshan at No. 1,
Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) cruised over Herlein 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3, and
Richie Armand (Fr./Hempstead, N.Y.) took down Alex Dowley (So./Spring Arbor, Mich.) in three sets at No. 4 (6-4, 0-6, 1-0).
The Panthers proved too strong in the end, however, claiming straight-set wins in the remaining three matches to edge out the win.
The Scots will take on Baldwin-Wallace in a non-conference duel on Tuesday at 8:30a.m.
