Scots Pick Up First Season Win In Non-Conference Duel With FDU Florham, 5-4

Match Results

After nearly four hours of play that spanned two days, the Fighting Scots claimed their first season win in a hard-fought non-conference duel with Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham this morning, 5-4, in Hilton Head, S.C. spring break action.

Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) registered the deciding match for the Scots at No. 3 singles, returning to the court this morning down 1-0 after play was suspended last night to capture a tie-break win in the second set, 7-6 (7-4), and take the decisive 1-0 (10-4) tie-break win over Ryan Kearns (Jr./Hillsborough, N.J.) in the third to lift his team to the victory.

Zack Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and No. 1 doubles partner Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) teamed up to win their third match together this season, 8-2, over FDU's Mitch Gettis (So./Reading, Pa.) and Naser Mannan (Jr./Harare, Zimbabwe). The Scots, however, found themselves down 2-1 after conceding the remaining doubles matches and were trailing by a 4-1 margin after Kevin Kotsak (Jr./South Amboy, N.J.) took down Gordon's Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-2) and Nikola Radovic (Fr./Belgrade, Serbia) bested Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.) at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2).

Facing defeat, the Scots rallied to deadlock the match at 4-4 behind a trio of wins from Hall over Gettis at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2), Gaudio over AJ Warden (Jr./Deland, Fla.) at No. 2 (7-6 (7-4), 6-0), and Richie Armand (Fr./Hempstead, N.Y.) over Mannan at No. 4 (7-5, 6-2).

That left the door open for Inkles to step up and grab the win for the Scots, who improve to 1-3 on the season with the victory.

FDU has now lost six straight and is 1-6 overall.

Gordon was scheduled for a head-to-head with Messiah today at 12:30 p.m., while the Devils take a day off before facing Messiah themselves on Friday, March 15.
