Scots Blank Raiders In Home Field Opener, 9-0

Box Score
Hosting the Raiders of Rivier University in their home opener today, the Fighting Scots blanked their guests for a 9-0 win to improve to 6-3 overall on the season. Rivier drops to 1-10 overall with the loss.

The game marks the third time the two teams have squared off in the past week and half, with all three games going in the Scots' favor after 5-4 and 6-3 decisions on March 9 over spring break in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Scots first got on the board when Brian Harrington (Sr./Shoreham, N.Y.) doubled and then crossed home on an error at right to give Gordon the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. That score held until the bottom of the fourth when Ben Davidson (Sr./Sterling, Mass.) reached on an error at short and advanced to second off an Alex Potocki (Fr./New Fairfield, Conn.) single. With the bases loaded after an Alex German (So./Brimfield, Ill.) single, Geoff Brown (Sr./East Moriches, N.Y.) popped up to second to score Davidson from third for the 2-0 lead. Before inning's end, the Scots' Alex Smith (Fr./Wethersfield, Conn.) widened that gap with a two-RBI drive to score Potocki and German and make it a 4-0 game.

Two innings later, with Potocki on third after reaching on a hit-by-pitch and advancing on German and Brown ground outs, Gordon's Dillon Coleman (Sr./Cromwell, Conn.) singled to plate Potocki and extend the lead to 5-0. After Coleman advanced to third following a wild pitch and a passed ball from Rivier's Justin Chenevert (Jr./Wilmington, Mass.), Eric Walker (Fr./Danvers, Mass.) singled to bring in Coleman and give Gordon a hefty 6-0 lead heading into the seventh.

German then ripped a two-RBI single and Brown a one-RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to seal the Raiders' fate and give the host Scots a 9-0 advantage they would hold the rest of the way.

Davidson earned the win on the mound for the Scots, pitching five innings and allowing just two hits, while Jacob Syed (So./Niskayuna, N.Y.), Scott Hall (Fr./Weymouth, Mass.), John Kanas (Sr./East Moriches, N.Y.), and Nick Catalanotto (Fr./Kingston, N.H.) each chipped in an inning's worth of scoreless work to preserve the victory.

Steven Carlberg (So./Dover, N.H.) is tagged with the loss for Rivier after allowing four runs off five hits in five innings of play.

The Scots are back on J. Tec White Field on Thursday, March 21 to host Colby-Sawyer in a non-conference tilt at 3 p.m. The Raiders look to get back on track on Thursday as well as they travel to Newbury for a non-conference 1x9 at 7 p.m.
