Emerson's effort was led by junior midfielder Chelsea Phillips (Waterford, Conn.), who continued her offensive tear with four goals to bring her season total to an impressive 24. Junior Mackenzie Johnson (Pasadena, Md.) booked two goals for the Lions, while Tayllar Righini (Fr./Salem, N.H.), Alex Corrado (Jr./Sammamish, Wash.), and Tracie Lombardo (Sr./Seaford, N.Y.) netted one apiece and keeper Victoria Kanaris (Fr./Haworth, N.J.) turned away six shots in the loss.
Grinnell and Illian got the Scots off to a good start, scoring two goals each in the opening nine minutes to give Gordon the early 4-0 lead, but Phillips stopped that run with her first of four on an unassisted effort at 19:52. Fitzgerald then booked her first tally at 15:30, one timing a feed from Blomberg past Kanaris to once again give the Scots a four-goal cushion. Although the Lions' Johnson responded just minutes later off a Krystie Zoch (Jr./Mahwah, N.J.) assist to keep the game within reach, Gordon closed out the half with a 7-1 run to establish a comfortable 12-3 lead at the break.
The Scots continued that run in the second frame, outscoring Emerson 4-1 in the first 15 minutes behind a trio of goals from Blomberg and one from Dietrich to widen the gap to 16-4. The Lions then went on an offensive surge of their own, scoring five unanswered goals over the next 10 minutes (three from Phillips, one each from Corrado and Lombardo), but the Scots managed possession and the clock in the waning minutes to secure the seven-goal victory.
Gordon won the draw control battle on the night by a 16-10 margin, seven of which were credited to Fitzgerald.
The Scots open conference play on Saturday, March 23 as they play host to Endicott at 1 p.m. Emerson travels to Norwich for a conference matchup on the same day also at 1 p.m.
